Frequently Asked Questions

Everything we get asked about the nectar mix, shipping, subscriptions, and keeping feeders fresh. If your question is not here, email us at heirloomhabitats@gmail.com.

About the Nectar Mix

One ingredient: USDA Organic sucrose. That is it. No dyes, no preservatives, no additives. We keep it simple because hummingbirds do not need anything complicated.
Tear open the pouch and pour it into a container. Add water — room temperature is fine. Stir until dissolved, which takes about a minute. Fill your feeders. Any leftover nectar can go in the fridge for up to two weeks.
Our mix is pre-measured to dissolve at the standard 4:1 water-to-sugar ratio when you use the full pouch with the right amount of water. The instructions are on every pouch.
Convenience and consistency. Getting the ratio right matters — too strong stresses hummingbirds’ kidneys, too weak doesn’t give them enough energy. Our mix is pre-measured to the correct 4:1 ratio, USDA Organic certified, and ready in two minutes with no boiling or measuring. You spend less time in the kitchen and more time watching the birds.
Because we want to know exactly what we’re feeding the birds that come to our homestead. USDA Organic certification means no synthetic pesticides or fertilizers were used in growing the sugarcane. It’s our standard for doing right by the birds.
No. Never add dye to nectar. Hummingbirds find feeders by the color of the feeder itself, not the liquid inside. Red dye is unnecessary and potentially harmful.

Ordering & Shipping

Our warehouse is in Rockwall, Texas. Orders typically ship within 1–2 business days and arrive in 3–5 business days via USPS or UPS depending on location.
Shipping is free on orders over $25. Below that, standard shipping rates apply at checkout.
We ship everywhere in the US.

Subscriptions

You get two pouches of nectar mix delivered every month at $14.99 — a savings of about $4 per shipment versus buying them separately. We send you an email reminder before each shipment.
Yes. Skip, pause, or cancel anytime from your account page. No contracts, no cancellation fees.
Skip that month. We would rather you use what you have than waste it. The subscription is supposed to make your life easier, not create a stockpile.

Feeders & Habitat

Any feeder that is easy to clean. Hummingbirds are not picky about feeder design — they care about clean nectar. We like feeders with wide openings because they are easier to scrub. Avoid feeders with intricate parts that trap mold.
In cool weather (below 70°F), every 5–7 days. In warm weather (70–90°F), every 3–4 days. In hot weather (above 90°F), every 1–2 days. If the nectar looks cloudy, change it immediately.
Two weeks before hummingbirds typically arrive in your area. For the Gulf Coast, that is mid-February. For the Midwest, early to mid-April. For the Pacific Northwest, March. Check our timing guide for region-specific details.
